Statement as of 12:15 am EST on November 8, 2009 ... Public information statement... A hard freeze was experienced across much of our area Saturday morning. Most sites reported minimum temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s. As a result... the growing season has ended for the year for the Virginia Piedmont... much of central... eastern and Southside Virginia... as well as interior northeastern North Carolina and the lower Eastern Shore. NWS Wakefield will not issue frost and freeze products for these areas until the growing season starts again in Spring 2010. This includes the following counties and cities... In Virginia... Brunswick... Greensville... Southampton... Isle of Wight... Sussex... Surry... Prince George... Dinwiddie... Chesterfield... Charles City... James City... Henrico... New Kent... .Gloucester... Mathews... King William... King And Queen... Middlesex... Essex... Lancaster... Richmond... Northumberland... Westmoreland... Accomack and Northampton. This includes the cities of... Emporia... Franklin... Suffolk... Chesapeake... Petersburg... Colonial Heights... Hopewell... Richmond... and Williamsburg. In North Carolina... Northampton... Hertford... Bertie... and gates. In Maryland... Dorchester... Wicomico... Somerset... and Worcester... including the Maryland beaches and Ocean City. NWS forecasts indicate that no further threat of a hard freeze is expected before the climatologically favored end of the growing season... which occurs approximately over the next 2 weeks. Freeze products will continue to be issued across Hampton Roads... the eastern Tidewater area and coastal northeastern North Carolina until a hard freeze is experienced... or until the growing season ends. |
