Fire Weather

Welcome to The Ark

I opened the door earlier this morning to let the dog take a walk and to inspect the garden area. I immediately noticed a strong smell of smoke in the air. The email and photos of Pottery's firefighting episode 2 days ago (to be included in comments section) were fresh in my mind, as was the NWS warning of fire weather this afternoon.

I walked the perimeter trying to determine the source. By the time I completed the loop, the smoke had thinned and I never detected a plume on the horizon, so with the stiff and variable breeze, I guess it was a good ways to the ENE of here.

Not a great way to start the morning. Low humidity, wind, very dry conditions, and lots of dead fuel on the ground from an very dry winter make perfect conditions for the rapid propagation of fires. These conditions are wide-spread this spring.

So...I'm keeping an eye out and I hope all of you are too.

How is Chief Red Toe? Little early for this one:

Cool with me Goofy, I'll just listen to it again later.
Also, it will be a great tune for "Chief Red Toe" to play for the ancient one tonight.

Thanks man!

Glad you are feeling better.
Please don't tempt me though. The aggravatingly curious part of my brain...yeah, the part that usually gets me in trouble...thought it would be really cool to wake up at 0300 and watch the pretty rocketship. Completely overrode the logic circuits. I've been awake for nearly 12 hrs and the part of my brain that deals with time, reality, and all that other housekeeping stuff is insisting that it is beer:30.

Gonna be a long day!

Ah! The things that are sent to tempt us...
Hang in there.
I'll let you know when it's time......

Pottery, I agree with Goofy and Rob, red means "inflamation" of an area.
Inflamation is the pre-cursor of "infection
" sometimes.

Infection untreated by anti-biotics can mean "Amputation" of the toe, foot, lower leg, upper leg,
convulsions, brain damage, and or death.

OK, I admit I got carried away with those last three, but do you get the point now?

No offense to the Lady Pottery, but have you had a real "DOCTOR" look at your toe yet?

You are scaring us Pottery.

Yep, I know that too!
And I agree with Hood about the 'pinkie' running out of juice as we er, um, progress...

But in truth, I spent a busy day and wore "going out shoes" for a lot of yesterday.
I think I just used poor toe too much...

So, today, I went to the WildFowl Trust to finish putting name-tags on trees. 4 hrs of tramping up and down a hill using a rivet gun and a spade (occasionally!).
But today I had on the "right" footwear, and all is well.

Looking good right now...
And feeling fine.
And no. I have not had any beverages. Yet.

OK, Plan A was changed at the last moment.

Daughter called, had forgotten about a Dr. appt.

So we had the Grands coming over at 1000 hrs.

Just had time to do the sprinkler repair I needed to do.

Will do the hedges tomorrow!

Headed for lunch now!

Okay, I've got tomato plants to tie, you've got clipping to do.
We'd probably both better get at it. Gonna get hot soon enough.

OK, start thinking about LOTTO numbers!

Darn it!

781 slipped right under his radar.
(maybe a good thing...don't want to upset the man too much before he uses the hedge clippers.)

No, but I know you well enough to guess that you probably had one.

Why would you want to remove it. Use it to mess with whoever planted it.

Now...the rule book didn't say anything about accidentally spilling your coke on it did it?
:o)

You are a bad boy Rob, would I do such a thing?

heh heh heh

OK, time to go whack some hedges with my double bladed electric clippers.
Talk about a dangerous tool, that sucker will cut your fingers right off.

Hope the wasps are not home this morning.
They don't care for me whacking their hedges. :)

Hey RTLSNK,
You need to trim those hedges.
Watch out for Wasps.

(and I still need to come up with a new blog)
Member Since: 02-09-08 Posts: 93 Comments: 30622
BTW...If I were ever to plant a bug somewhere and it was discovered, I would want it removed. I would want to know that it was compromised.
I don't know anything about that sort of stuff...just saying.

Sorry man!

OK, you're doing it again, I never told you I actually do have a "bug checker".

Bought it years ago when I had a PI Agency.

The Law is really funny about that sort of thing.
I could legally own the bug checker. I could legally use the bug checker.
But if I found one in your office, I could not touch it or remove it.
Because it could belong to a Big Brother Agency.
And they frown on messing with their equipment. :)

Poor Pottery!
66th Armor is the oldest active Armor Regiment in the US Army. Goes all the way back to WWI. I'll let you sort out the rest for yourself because half of the fun of Goofy's posts is figuring out what he's talking about! (especially when I've already drank my sleeping potion) The other half of the fun is that he digs up a lot of old tunes!

Take care of your feet man! It's easy to get an infection in the pinky toe...not a lot of blood circulates there, especially as you get....uhm, more mature.

Okay, gotcha. My Grandfather was an engineer...don't remember what unit, would have to look it up, but different era. Pacific WWII.

Will type more later. Gonna get distracted and miss the launch.

Send WU MAIL RE CODE PROBLEMS may try explaination

Either it's getting late, or Goofy is talking in code again.... :):))

Had to seek Medical Attention to The Toe this evening.
Looking a little swollen and red.
Dr. Lady Pott saw to it.
The treatment involved boiling the foot in a vat of medicine&water.

It looks a lot better.
But I will NEVER show her any of my wounds again........

off to bed>>>>>

NO too late for me . .. son honorable no 1 was last CO of CO D.

503 Engr's, 2/32 AR and HHC 3AD Funny how life works out. One of my old friends told me to look up her roommate bro if I got to USAEUR. Said OK. I am there bout 3 wks., and some dude from across the hall in CBR says " Hey I'm S D and my sister said to look for you.

So what are the chances that my old GF's college roommate's brother in 1967 would end up across the 3rd floor office from my safe in the 3rd Herd.

So today we are still buds and haven't heard from the GF in 4o years. Other tales to come.

Actually, I don't think I have that photo. I guess I could check the SAT archives.

Hey Goofy!
Tried to help, but that YouTube is embed disabled.
Thanks for the link though!

Big bright orange sunset here tonight...nothing spectacular due to lack of clouds.

Going to try to get to bed early in hopes of seeing the launch early in the morning. Not setting the clock, but figure since I slept really well last night, I'll likely be up by 0300 Tuesday.

Rest well and take care all!

Rain on and off all day ... off= liquid sunshine.

My gage is off so no idea what we got last night but it woke me up. Don't know about you but if the noise of the splatter is enough, the sound of the rain or thunder will wake me.

Tried to load this but NG so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfvbtbmJyoU&feature =related

Note to RTL: Think like Lord Pott this is a transition to a negotiation... I am slowly (Irish) slowly beginning to understand "HARRY'S " comment that a man has to understand his limitations ... does not mean than HE has to accept them.. or to paraphrase some guy, " pain lets me knoe I am alive.

What, you've never heard about my sprinkler system?

Rob has a photo of it somewhere.

Six zones, six pop up 30' sprayers per zone.

Starts at 0400 hrs, 30 minutes per zone.

Designed it myself. :)

Well, would rather have rain than turn on the sprinkler system!

Time to fire up the Rib Eyes, back later.

Well, RTLSNK, something had to come along to push that storm away from the GA coast! Besides...you said you could use some rain. Oh...wait a minute...that was before you completed the mulching mission.
