I know, happens all the time. Today, however, we see a particularly egregious example from one of the resident tea bag nutters. He actually lifted Ross Douthat's entire column from today's New York Times and posted it on his own blog - without even acknowledging the Times. Certainly there are some sources out there that allow free reproduction of copyrighted material but the NYT is not one of them. This is from the Times website:

The minimum fee for the right to reproduce New York Times materials is $200. Fees quoted include a file for reproduction. How many here think that Jer ponied up the $200 for the right to reproduce the Times material? Rhetorical question. Especially ironic when one considers the incessant chants of SOCIALISM-SOCIALISM-SOCIALISM. Yet he feels free to appropriate the property of another, probably in his mind to promote the common good. Also ironic when one considers the constant pratter about the rule of law in the US - a rule that exists only until it butts up against their personal prerogatives.

Make no mistake about it, this is theft. The NYT pays Ross Douthat to write his column and expects to be able to sell that product to cover expenses and make a profit for their shareholders. People that illicitly reproduce IP are taking money away from the Time shareholders and putting Mr. Douthat's ability to make a living at risk. To be honest, I'm really surprised that WU doesn't have zero tolerance on this stuff since their IP is at risk as well.
