05:50, 71F, pasture fog. roosters crowing. songbirds singing. crows cawing. took pup and old russell for walk. guardian has close encounter of striped skunk kind in cactus field. skunk in defensive position. guardian curious and barking. skunk leaves. guardian rolling in grass... pup in spasms of rage. as pup was dragged down the lane, guardian still rolling in grass. no odor, but no wind either. NO!! doesn't work sometimes. guard dog, smelling faintly of skunk, shows up while I give hay to donkeys. pup sniffs her and sneezes, sneezes, sneezes ...
09:10, high tide falling at suwannee river. low 80's. SW wind, 8 knts. a light chop. sampled fishes with otter trawl and bait seine in salt creek, double-barrel, and just offshore. catches medium to low depending on substrate. low catches over shell bottom. medium catches of very small fish over mud or peat bottom. caught a mess of young-of-the-year (YOY) clupeids tentatively identified as scaled sardines (Har. jaguana). took 10 back to I.D. also caught anchovies that didn't look quite like the usual anchovies that we catch and some very small whiting, so took 10 of those back for I.D. a lot of fish recruiting into the estuary this time of year - pinfish, pigfish, silver perch, trout, etc. strong current. moderate chop. winds veered to the west, 10 knts. and kicked up 1-2 ft. seas just offshore. breeze and spray felt good. water temperature, 29-30C, 84.5-86F. a few pelicans, cormorants, and gulls. looked for gators but didn't see any.
15:00, 93F at back door. unloaded feed. hot out. got 2 eggs.
21:10, 78F, misty. waxing gibbous moon up high. some stars. screech owl in laurel oak next to the big disaster in the lane. fireflies.

08:50. high tide at CK. great egrets in the marsh. 77F, east wind 10 knts. church was good. encountered a diamond-back terrapin trying to cross the road at the sandspit. walked her back to the water.

6/8/13. saturday midnight. guard dog woke me up, barking and running to the house.
awake, I heard a rush, a crash, something thudded against the house by my window with a Boom. a flash of light.
